Volunteering with Region 13
AYSO is an all-volunteer organization. Every team needs five key volunteers: two coaches, two referees, and one team manager.
Why Volunteer
Volunteers make youth soccer possible. AYSO has only 18 paid staff members nationwide; everything else is done by parent volunteers like you.
When you volunteer, you:
- Support your child’s soccer experience directly
- Join a community of families working toward a common goal
- Develop new skills
- Shape how kids learn sportsmanship and teamwork
Volunteer Requirements
All volunteers must complete:
- Volunteer Application — Through InLeague
- Background Check — Free, through Sterling Volunteers
- LiveScan Fingerprinting — One-time, at Only Stop Travel on Woodbury Road (first-time volunteers only)
- Safety Training — CDC Concussion Awareness, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness, AYSO Safe Haven
- SafeSport Training — Annual renewal required

Role-Specific Training
Beyond the universal requirements, each role has additional training:
Coaches
Age-specific certification course (6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, or advanced). See Coach Training.
Referees
8U Official course or Regional Referee course depending on division. See Referee Training.
Team Managers
Orientation video, Safe Haven training, and background check. See Manager Training.
4U/5U Volunteers
No additional training required. The league hires professional coaches for these youngest divisions.
Training Schedule
Classes are scheduled nearly every weekend in August before the fall season, with weeknight options available. Registration is through eTrainU.
